We can proudly present the entrepreneurs behind Sparky Health, Erika, and Erik. Promoting well-being for all through simple, forward-thinking digital tools. Erika and Erik came in second place in the category of Sustainable health in the competition Impact Cup.
Sparky is a customizable digital reminder tool in which by taking care of a charming digital character – a lightbulb named Sparky – you are also taking care of yourself.
We got to ask some questions about the business idea and what happens next!
Tell me more about Sparky, how did you come up with the idea?
We met last fall as part of a multidisciplinary design research course at OpenLab in Stockholm. There, we connected with the Överviktscentrum and spent six months learning about the challenges they face and thinking about ideas for new products and services. Sparky was born out of our desire to make existing treatments more accessible and effective and to facilitate healthy habit formation. How can we motivate people, especially youth, to form new habits? How can we make it easy to communicate progress to the practitioner between visits? After the course, it has been helpful to keep a steady pace, including with support from coaching at Drivhuset Stockholm.

What was it like competing with your idea?
It was an excellent experience for us to compete in the Impact Cup! It was helpful to condense many months of thinking into a short pitch format. The other presentations were inspiring, and we got some great feedback and insights from the jury as well. A tip would be to rehearse as much as possible – even recording yourself as you practice your pitch!
What’s the next step for Sparky?
We will soon start testing with our updated prototype. From there, we will seek out more grants and funds to test and iterate for the best outcome possible. We will continue our collaboration with Region Stockholm and the clinic, and work on growing our team. We look forward to seeing what the future brings!
